The American Red Cross set up six depots in Ireland, where they sent stores of clothing, first-aid outfits, and other necessaries to provide amply for any emergency which might arise through _ the torpedoing of ships carrying American soldiers or sailors. If necessary, 6,000 shipwrecked Americans could have been oatfitted from head to foot at one time from these emergency depots.
