SAlLED.—December 5. Houto, auxiliary schooner (2.35 p.m.), 149 tons, Richards, for Lyttelton.

The auxiliary schooner Houto left Dunedin this afternoon with a full general cargo for Lyttelton. Sho will afterwards load produce at tho Canterbury port for Kaipara, and will subsequently take a cargo of timber from the latter port to Timaru.

The Union Company's cargo steamer Karori, which is duo at Sydney on December 15 from San Francisco and Suva, has a full general cargo for Australia. She is also bringing a largo American mail. Tho Remnera, which arrived at Wellington on Sunday last from Timaru, to complete Homeward loading, is fixed to loave the northern port on December 10 for London via Panama.

Mr Alex. Baird, chief steward of the Monowai, was transferred from that vessel to tho Seainon's Mission Hospital at Wellington on Monday, suffering from influenza.

The Federal-Shire liner Dorset, which arrived at Auckland on Sunday night last from Sydney, to load for Egypt, is duo at Wellington on Monday next to complete loading. The Wellington office of tho Shaw-Savin and Albion Line havo reooiv-od cable advice that the liner Malmra arrived at Sydney on Sunday last from Port Said. It is probable that the vessel will come on to Now Zealand to complete loading for EeyPt " _____ THE SYDNEY SERVICE. The' head office of tho Union Company and the ITurklavt-I'arker Company have not yet received any inform?!ion of the recommissioning of tho Moeraki, Manuka, Rivorina, and Westralia. Tho latter vessel is at present engaged in the Sydney - Hobart trade, and tho others nro ail held up in Australia owing to the disinclination of seamen in sign on on Now Zealandbound steamers.

AMERICAN SHIP JOHN EVA.

It is reported in tho Oliristchurch papers that it has boon decided by her agents that tho American ship John Eva will proceed from Lyttelton to Dunedin to complete discharging her cargo oil. The local agents (tho Vacuum Oil Comoanv) state" that this is incorrect, as instructions were received by cable last week from tho vessel's owners for her to discharge the Dunedin portion of her cargo at Lyttelton, and then proceed to Melbourne, * The John Eva had been anchored in tho stream at Lyttelton for over a fortnight. It is understood that th ship has sineo been towed to a discharging berth, and a representative of the Vacuum Oil Company has gone from Dunedin to Lyttelton to superintend the landing of her cargo.

SAILING SHIPS AT LYTTELTON,

Tho sailing vessel Mindoro, 642 tons. Captain Anderson, arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from San Francisco. 11l tat a l&ngtry passage- The vessel brought a cargo of caso oil and a deck load of timber for Messrs A. R. Pa'torson and Co. The Mindoro will discharge the whole of her cargo at Lyttelton. She will afterwards s° '' co ,^ 0 islands to load copra for San Fronds-:©. A large sailing vessel, believed to be the French ship Duqucsne, 2,174 tons gross register, was reported off Lyttdton Heads this morning, and was expected to berth at tho Canterbury port this afternoon. Tho vessel, should she be tho Duquesne. left j>3n Francisco on September 12. She has a full shipment of Ameinoan merchandise, a largo quantity of which is consigned to Dunedin. On completion of discharge at Lyttelton, the vessel will go to Australia to load wheat for tho United ■States.
