NOTHING TO REPORT.
WESTPORT, August 27.
There is nothing substantial to report regarding the coal crisis. Mr Semple addressed a meeting at Denniston last night, and will speak at Stockton and Millerton to-night. Denniston is working-, but the latter mines are not. The whole position is obscure. Something should happen within the next 24 hours.
BALLOTS IN THE NORTH,
AUCKLAND, August 28
Ballots were taken by the miners at Huntly, Pukemiro, and Rotowaro yesterday on the question of a strike or a Royal Commission. The result will not be known till the end of the week.
The Otago Employers' Association have sent a telegram to Sir James Allen on the lines of that despatched from Christchurch by the Canterbury Employers' Association and published on page 6 oi this issue.
