TO-MORROW'S COLLECTION
FOR THE NAVY AND MERCANTILE MARINE. A combined collection in aid of the work carried on by tho Ladies' Emergency Committee of the Navy League and the "British and Foreign Sailors' Society respectively will be held to-morrow, and it is hoped that the public will respond with special generosity to this appeal. These two bodies cater for tho wants of the Navy and the mercantile marine, supplying woollen comforts to the men of the various ships, coming to tho rescue of torpedoed crews! and supplying hospital garments to naval hospitals and hospital ships, and parcels to naval prisoners of war, which are said to be the means of keeping them from starvation. Owing to tho increase of prices at Home' this work is being carried on under daily increasing difficulties, and funds are urgently needed •by both societies. It is hoped that New Zealanders will pay their debti to the Navy and the mercantle marine, to whom they owe their present state of security and well-boing, in tho fullest possible manner, and that a very large sum will be the result of to-morrow's effort, in which every patriotic society in Dunedin is taking part. The High School Cadets and some oi the public school bands are also giving their assistance, and will march through the town in the course of the afternoon.
