PROTECTION OF WOMEN

A meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held in the Town Hall yesterday; present—The Rev. Canon Curzon-Siggers (in the chair), Mr D. Wright, the Rev. V. G. King, Dr E. Siedeberg, Miss Runciman, Mesdames Jackson, Davey, Stone, Staff-captain Park, and Mrs A. Ansell-Hodson. A pleasing tribut was paid to the president Before commencing the ordinary business. Mr Duncan Wright moved—" That the committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children offer to their esteemed president (the Rev. Canon Curzon-Siggers) hearty congratulations and warmest felicitations on having reached the 21st year of his successful ministry in St. Matthew's Church, and wash him "health and blessing in the days that are to be." This was seconded by Dr E. Seideberg, and carried unanimously. A deputation from all women's societies in the Dominion interviewed the Prime Minister (the Hon. Mr Maseey) at Wellington at the end of July on several matters relating to women. This society were represented by Miss Stewart, rhrneddn. On August 14, at Wellington, a deputation waited on th» Hon. G. W. Russell regarding the need of women patrols and several other matters. Mrs A. Ansell-Hodeon (secretary) represented the society. The deputation met with a very courteous reception, the reply being most satisfactory. These matters are to be brought before the House shortly. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered to the president (Canon Gurzon-Siggers) and the secretary for their untiring efforts in the interests of women and children. The secretary's report was read and approved. It showed a great many applications to the society for advice and "help. The treasurer's account was tabled, and accounts due passed for payment.
