ST. KILDA COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting of tho St. Kilda Borough Council was- held last evening. There "were present—Cis A. E. Edgar (deputy Mayor), C. Gnrc, A. Campbell, J. Ritchie. 6. Densem, K. W. Hall. 11. Snieuton, R. Teller, and A. Kiipatrick. A ietfcer was received from the Forbury School Committee asking for a reduction in the rent of the Coronation Hall on the occasion of the school concerts on two j nights at the end of September.—Referred to~Finance Committee. A circular was received from Mayor of Hokitika enclosing a copy of a resolution passed by the Hokitika Borough Council proposing that a. national day of prayer be held in respect to winning the war.— It was resolved to support the_ resolution. The secretary of the St. Kilda Public Library Committee wroto asking the council for some small means of assistanco during the coming year.—The usual grant oi" j £o was made. j The following accounts were passed for payment:— District fund account, £153 12s sd"; special loan account Xo. 2, £6 10s 8d ; special loan account Xo. 3, £93 19s sd. The report of the Works, Water, and Lighting Committee was adopted. A clause-in the rejiort stated that the tender of YV.'M. Clark, in the sura of £ll 2s. had been accepted for the carrying out of work at the fire station. The committee also reported that instructions had been given to the inspector to have Albert street and lngs avenue patched with liin metal. The- Finance Committee reported that the bank balance stood as follows: District fond account, £6,507 10s 8d (debit) ; special loan account Xo. 2, £B7 7s 9d (credit); special loan account Xo. 3, £1.209 0s Bd.—The report was adopted. In regard to the suggestion of the Towrh Clerk. Dunedin. that tho Borough of St. Kilda should unite with tho City in the establishment of a public pound, the clerk was instructed to ascertain how much the borough woidd bo expected to contribute towards the cost of the pound.
