A little while ago it was announced from Rome that Signnr Giulio Ulivi, the inventor o: F-rays, had invented a new searchlight on the principle of apjdvins the invisible mira rod raves beyond She red band of the spectrum to detect objects in darkness by determining their length. Tho new invention is known as "Scotosoopia," moaning vision in darkness, and consists of a searchlight, emitting invisblo rays which illuminate distant objects and lender th*mi visible only to the observer. Thus by means of " Scofoscopic " searchlights warships are enabled to seo without being Keen. Photographs, or rather Scotcgraphs. of_ object* in darkness can be token and enlarged so that enemy coasts can be mapped. The invention can bo used on land and sea as well as in tho air, so that it wiil bo found most useful iu waging war against submarines and in tho defence against aerial raids. Signals can bo excknngcd invisibly between shipo equipped with Scoitoscopie apparatuses, and other practical applications of this wonderful invention can be easily obtained.
