FRESH ANGFSE ADVANCE.

BRITISH NEAR MIRAUMONT.

LONDON. February 17. •Sir Douglas Haig reports : We made a successiul raid southward of Soudiez An enemy party reached our line northeast ot Armentieres. but was immediately driven out. In air fights on Thursday nine German machines were brought down, tour British machines are missing.

We■carried out a successful operation on both banks of the Anere this morning, and made progress considerably We attacked southward of the river and captured positions on a front of a mile and a halt opposite the villages of Miraumont and Petit Miraumont, higher up the Ancre from Grandcourt, and on the north and south bank respectively We penetrated over 1,000 yards, and advanced our zone within a few hundred yards of Petit Miraumont. We captured northwards of the river an important position on the upper slopes of the spur northwards of Baillescourt Farm, on a 1 CCO yards front. We successfully repulsed a counter attack. The enemy's losses were heavy.
