Captain Polack, of the Kron Priheessen Gccile. at the hearing of a litigation suit that is proceeding regarding the sale of the steamer, gave evidence that 1 he was instructed by an official of the ' German Embassy to disable the machinery in order to prevent the use of the vessel by the United States in the event of war. * The order was obeyed at the end of January. The damage is estimated at £20.000. Captain Polack asked to be excused from disclosing the name of the official, declaring that _if he. did so he would be court martinlcd in Germany.
