Hshed in a. recent issue of the ‘Gazette,' affords some interesting comparisons between the cities and the suburbs of \ew /rt-alaiid. Wellington, as befits the capital, leads the way with the, lowest death rate, 9.45 per 1.000. and the highest birth rate, 24.51 per I.COO. of any in the Dominion.’ The honor of the second highest, birth rate d 0.09 per I.OCO, belongs to Christchurch with Auckland, 2-5.55 per 1,000. and Dunedm 2a. oh per 1,000. almost tieiim ,* 0 ,. third place.

Taking the suburban boroughs as a whole their death rate is 10.24 per 1,000 and their birth rate 23.59. as against „ of n ' oß and a birth "rate, of 25.4 for the four city areas. In the matter of death rates Takapuna Borough (Auckland) has the best record with 3.27 per 1.000. the next best being Karon Borough (Auckland) with a rate of h.25.
