BABY SHOW A GREAT ATTRACTION
The committee have worked assiduously to make the above festival a success. There was every appearance of a, fine nfter-
noon, and in consequence the op,cuing was most auspicious. Crowds of happv! eager folk thronged to St. Clair, keen to take advantage ol the many good things provided for their entertainment. St. Clair on a fine Saturday. Sunday, or holiday is id ways gay and lively place, hut to-d<iy s evynt was something quite out of the ordinary, and Chough the races at V\ ingatni and tin? grand opera matinee were _ powerful cmiiirar-atl-ractions. tin, Mardi Gras Committee- have every reason to be satisfied with the patronage accorded then. The event of the day was, of course, the baby show, which created the, keenest interest. His Worship the Mayor i.Mr .1. J. I'larki in his opening remarks referred to the splendid asset Dunedin had in the Ocean Beach, and congratulated the promoters of the show on -their efforts to popularise the beach. 'Hip City Council were, doing all in their power to improve vghc port,on oi the sea front under their control. They were making a point of providing conveniences for the people using the Ocean Beach. They had provided an esplanade, and had now in the (■nurse of erection shelter sheds for the convenience of the public. Fireworks and oilier amusements of a notable hbid are provided for this evening.
Those interested should note that the prizes won at the Mardi Gras will be presented on Monday evening at Mr K. L. Macassoy's office, in Ratt-rav street.
