BREACH OF AWARD
At tho Magistrate’s Court to-day Die Inspector of Awards (Mr L. D. Browett) proceeded against H. Ginsberg and Co., Royal Arcade, for a breach of tho softgoods trade ,".watd in that they worked nu assistant (Thonyvs Bennett) on a statutory half-holiday —to wit, Saturday, October 28. Air Browett explained that defendants closed their -shop on the previous Monday (Labor Day), ard kept open on the Saturday. Ginsberg rang up the Labor Department on the morning of that day seeking information on the matter, and was told that ho could, under tho Shop; and Offices Act, keep Ink shop open that afternoon, but that under the softgoods award ho could not work the assistant after 1 p.m.
Thomas Barton (inspector) and Raleigh Ginsberg gave evidence.
Mr Browett said that, there was not another award that he knew of with a. similar direct prohibition, but contended that the prevision was not inconsistent with the Act, Judgment was reserved,.
