WEST HARBOR COUNCIL
The monthly meeting last night was attended by the Mayor (Mr 'H. E. Moller), Crs Harridge, Grant, Fraser, Mitchell, Downes, I'orgic, Gordon, Barker, and Gooch. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr E. Keflett in respect to the death of his son at the front. - —-Correspondence.— Prom Mr J. Wilkinson in reference to the proposal to exempt Hill street from tho ‘■legal proviso that no street in a borough shall be less than 40ft wide. It would be necessary to get the consent of the landowners concerned in respect to putting no building nearer than 33ft from the street centre, or else to pass a by-law, in terms of the Municipal Corporations Act.—The Town Clerk to obtain consent of landowners. From the Railway Traffic Manager stating that inquiries made at all the railway stations concerned showed there was no demand for changing the 7.28 p.m. train to 8.5 p.m. on Fridays. Therefore the council’s request for such change could not bo acceded to.— Received. irohi the _ Chief Postmaster, regretting ; tHat the business at Burkes and St. Leonards did not warrant iho appointment of an extra message boy at Eavcnsbourne to deliver telegrams to those places.—Tho matter to be gone into further by tho St. Leonards councillors. From Mr F. B. Sanders, complaining of an open drain at Montague street.—Referred to Works Committee to report. From Mr J. W.lkii 1-sou and Mr G. T. ■ Monk, complaining of a sewerage nuisance at District road. —The council were prepared to put m_ piping if the people' concerned provided the pipes. From Mr S. Watkins, offering fo remove ashes -and house refuse weekly at St. Leonards and Burkes for £1 per house yearly.—, Tho Clerk said the council would have to provide a tip.—The St. Leonards councillors to make inquiries for a tip. —Reports.— Tho Finance Committee reported ibab the receipts totalled £194 5s 4d—Adopted. Tho Works Committee reported qu the work dpno and requiring to be done.— Adopted. The Reserves Committee reported in matters connected with the Recreation Ground, recommending that, arrears or club fees be reduced in amount, and that tenders la called for cutting the grass.—Adopted. Ou the motion of Cr Barker it was resolved to procure an honors board on which to inscribe the mines of ills ymnw men who had enlisted from the borou-h for active service.
