[Special to the ' Star.'] CHRISTCHURCH, April 15. A large number of horses who have been in professional trainers' stables for some time have been returned to their owners during the past week, to be finished off in their training, and so be able to conform to the new rule of the Forbury Park Club, which makes it compulsory for all horses in amateur events to be trained and owned by amateurs one month prior to date of race. Bimeter is being freely talked of in connection with the Easter Handicap, to be decided on Easter Monday, in which it is stated that he will be ridden bv R. Hatch.

The Malster horse has not done a gr<sit deal of work on the tracks lately, but appeal's to do well on a light preparation. It is understood that the Auckland-bred trotter Eruption has been purchased by a Canterbury sportsman at a solid figure, and that tho horso will in future be raced on local tracks. Those who saw Eruption racing at tho recent Auckland meeting have formed a very high opinion of tho "horse's ability as a trotter. Mr H. Taylor's team, which will go to Australia some timo next month, will bo accompanied by the Riccarton trainer, R. W. King. As yet no definite arrangement as to the strength of the party has been arrived at, but the Martian fillies, Bee and Spangle, are certain to bo taken over. R. M'Seveny will also go to Australia for the winter, and will rido M. Hobbs's jumpers in their hurdle engagements there. L. Hagerty ha 6 taken charge of the Red Rain gelding, recently brought to Riccarton, and tho same trainer has had a further addition to his team in the shape of a six-year-old gelding by Charlemagne 11. from Manchester's dam. He is a big standing horse, who should make good in time over country. A. Oliver- will" rido Mr T. H. Lowry's horses at the C.J.C. Autumn Meeting. An Auckland writer this week says = that Mr G. D. Greenwood has decided that Nones is not to fulfil her engagements at the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting, and her absence from tho St. Leger and Oaks robs the events of practically all interest. Nones, in her trainer's opinion, has had a heart-breaking job chasing Desert Gold and then. Eligible, and the daughter of Martian will probably be given a rest. However, the Martian filly's name figured among the final payments telegraphed, but as she is again at Riccarton it was probably an oversight. Though Tete-a-Tete (9.7) has been set a very severe task in the C.J.C. Raster Handicap, past results show that it is by no means an impossible one. When a 'year younger than Mr Lowry's representative. Cruciform prevailed under 9.9, and at tho former's age Machine Gun carried 10.4 to victorV.
