CITY COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Re the appointment of ranger and dog tax collector, I cannot, understand why exception should be taken by some people' to the decision of the members of the City Council in their appointment. I The man appointed has been in the employ of the City for a number of years, and has held a responsible position. He has carried out his duties with credit to himself and satisfaction to his l employers. He has proved that he is to be depended upon to attend to his duties at all hours, irrespective of the elements. He is of mature years, and has proved himself to have taot and discretion, which are very essential to the position to which he has been appointed. The man has been appointed on ability, and the only promotion, ho has received is from a daily wage to a yearly salary. Work has been found, and will be found, for our returned heroes. I do not say at a yearly salary, as the positions are too few, but at a daily or weekly wage; therefore no injustice ii'js been deno to them in this instance.—l am, etc., F. IUE. April 17.
