[Per Uxitkd Phess Association.] A T EW PLYMOUTH, Apvil 15. A .second donation of £I.OOO has been given by the Hon. 0. Samuel to the Belgian relief fund.

OFF TO THE FRONT,

■The Mornington Jinmicip.nl emplovces met last evening in the Waratah Tea Rooms for the purpose of making- a presentation to one of their number, Mr Richard Simpson (who had volunteered for military service, a.nd who was on leave irom Trentham). Ok Sincock and Paiton were present. The former occupied the chair, and in making a presentation on behalf of the employees, of a wristlet watch, referred in eulogistic terms to Mr Simpson's qualities <n s a workman and man, and to the esteem in which he is held by his brother employees and employers. Or Patton. on behalf of the three councillors representing the borough in the City Council, presented Mr Simpson with a pocket book, and wished him every success and a safe return. Mr Simpson suitably replied. The loval toast was honored, and a very enjoyable hour was spent, marked by good-fellowship and the- best of wishes for the guest of the eveniiii.'.

ASSOCIATION

The. large number of workers who attend tins sewing meeting every Thursday afternoon and evening shows very clearly the practical interest taken, by the women i>f the. North-east Yallev in "tho work for the soldiers. During the past week the total number of socks handed in by workers reached one thousand, the maker of tho one-thousandth pair being Mr Bowie, whom the committee wish to con<n«tnlate, as he- has .since, the inception of this, branch regularly contributed of bis handiwork. The following work was parcelled up: 14 balaclava caps, 21 pairs of socks, 6 dozen towels, 4 dozen service bags, 6 suits pyjamas, and 2 do/.on handkerchiefs. For Red Cross: 19 pair hospital slippers, and a large (|iKiutity of bandages, operation veils, diet dothfi. bod shirts, swabs, and also 5 boxes of old linen. The committee gratefully acknowledge donations from the followine:—Mrs Cox, Mrs Strain, Mrs Yincent, Mrs Wills, Miss Robertson, Mrs Ross, Mrs Strain, Mrs Coble, Mi's Hanly. Ori account of' the Easter holidays there will be no meeting next week, but work will be vesumeil t hc following Thursdav (April 27).
