There's a slender artist laddie, "With the troops "somewhere" in France, And you'll find him with the bravest Where the khaki lines advance. He'll be singing ' Tipperary ' With a cheory, mud-stained crew, With a heart throb for New Zealand And "the sweetest girl he knew." There's a studio neglected In a distant seaport town, The grate is growing rusty, And the ceiling's tumbling down. There's an easel in the corner. Where the darkest shadows fall; There's a paint-smeared brush and palette, And the grey dust covers all. He was British more than artist-;.. And ho went to take his chance "When he heard his comrades calling For his help out there in France ! Edna Geahaji. Dunedin.
