The House of Representatives met at H a.m. The amendments made by the Legislalive Council in the Counties Amendment) and Municipal Corporations Bill went agreed to. The Railways Improvements Authorisa* tion Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor’s Message, and read a first time. The Hon. 3lr Herries explained that it was entirely a machinery measure. The Public Health Amendment Bill (No. 2), to remedy a defect in existing legislation and to prevat employees being compelled to take their meals under insani-! tary conditions, w. s read a second time. The Hon, G. W. Russell moved the second reading of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill. He explained that it was to arrange an automatic basis for the payment of travelling allowances for n embers of boards.—Second reading agreed to. EDUCATION BOARDS. The Hon. J A, Hanan moved the second reading of the Education Amendment Bill, explaining that the measure was to reduce the numlKT of Wards to nine, which would make for greater efficiency, and was oaJareJy in tlu? interest;? <4 lit® children.
