The tallest structure in New Zealand is the ‘ Star ’ building in Auckland, which is nine stories in height. The New Zealand Insurance Company's premises in the same city are eight stories, a similar height to "the Express Company’s building in Dunedin. The Grand Hotel, Wellington, has the distinction of being the tallest hotel in the Dominion, being seven stories, while there are numerous structures of six stories in the four chief centres. In Australia a year or two ago there was a marked leaning towards the “skyscraper,” but this re° ceived a check when the Culwulla Chambers in Sydney (15 stories) were erected. Since the completion of this big structure several edifices of 11 and 12 stories have been erected, but the authorities have restricted the height to 150 ft. Ghuggerton: “How's your chauffeur?” Carr: Had to fire him; he used to be a motorman.” Ghuggerton: “Too reckless, eh?” Carr: “Reckless nothin* Why, I couldn't break him of the habit of slowing up at crossings.”
