ROSLYN WARD ELECTION
MR HAMEL’S CANDIDATURE. A number of ratepayers and householders met Air J. H. F. Hamel, who is a candidate for the City Council, in Washer’s Hall last evening. Air Alegget (chairman) introduced Air Hamel, and affirmed the necessity for the ward being represented by a"man of experience. Ho referred to many of the trading concerns connected with the City, and expressed ■the opinion that the general knowledge which Air Hamel possessed would he of considerable advantage to the City. Air Hamel briefly reviewed Greater Duned’n's many activities, and promised to deliver a public address at an early date. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by acclamation.
Air Hamel prefaced his remarks by referring to a rumor which he had heard after the last municipal elections, that he (Air Hamel) was of German descent. This was absolutely untrue, and if his committee heard such a statement repeated during tho coming election he would he ready to deal with such libellers through the courts of justice. Air Hamel added that his father was a Jersey man and his mother a Guernsey woman, and ■that ho (the speaker) was born in St, Heliers, Jersey, and baptised in the old town church, which was founded in 1111.
