IRON GROSS STATISTICS

The ‘ Cologne Gazette ’ publishes statistics of the distribution of Iron Crosses. Up to March 31 there had been granted five Grand Crosses, 6,488 Iron Crosses of the First Class, and 338,261 Iron Crosses of the Second Class.. For the whole of the 1870 war there wore only eight Grand Crosses, 1,304 Iron Crosses of the First Class, and 45,791 Iron Crosses of the Second Class. The cost of manufacture of crosses up to March 31 was about £140,000, and 120,210 yards of black ribbon and 535 yards of white ribbon have been used.
