A LITTLE GIRL’S DEATH. A very sad and distressing. fatality occurred at Oavcr.sham yesterday, resulting in the death of Edna Lenore Almond, the four-year-old daughter of Constable Almond, of the Caversham station. It appears that the 5.11 p.m. tramcar had just left the terminus at Caversham, and was approaching the first turn at M'Cracken’s corner, when the little girl ran in front, and was immediately kil’ed. She was running in the same direction as the car, and must Lave failed to hear it. A sad part of the fatality was that the father was close by at the time, and witnessed what happened. The child’s skull was fractured, and Dr Evans on arrival pronounced fife extinct. Death must have been instantaneous. Deceased was the parents’ only daughter. The car was in charge of Motor man M’Kain, an experienced driver, and Conductor M‘Ooy. * The Coroner (Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) opened, an inquest on the body at 4 o'clock this afternoon, when he took formal evidence as to identification, and also the 'evidence of Dr Evans as to the injuries sustained. The inquest was then adjourned for other evidence.
