Mr James Mackenzie. 1.5.0.. F.R.G.S., Under-Secretary of Lande, left Wellinctou on Thursday night for Dunedin. and after wing into certain matters on the Elderelie No. 2 Lands for Settlement Estate, near Oamaru, on Saturday forenoon, came on to Dunedin. To-day, accompanied by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr Sadd, ha visited Alexandra in connection with irrigation and fruit growing fsrme, finally returning north on Wednesday or Thursday. Mr H. F. Wright, formerly a partner of the firm of Fairbairn, Wright, and Co., whof has been a resident of Roslyn for tho last 13 years, has decided to offer his ser-vices-to the ratepayers for the vacant eeat in Roslyn Ward of the City Council. The Most Rev. the Primate (Dr Nevill) held an ordination at St. John's Church yesterday, when the Rev. H. G. L. Goldthorpe (Pembroke) and Rev. A. S. Moffatt (Tapanui) -were admitted to the priesthood. The candidates were presented by tho examining chaplain (Ven. A/rehdeacon Wtoodthorpe, M.A.). The Primate preached at the ordination service and at evensong. A Palmerston North telegram states that the death occurred suddenly yesterday evening of the Rev. H. S. Gascoyen Beard, of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Terrace. End, Palmerston North. Deceased was a son of Dr Beard, formerly of Masterton. He was only 28 years of age, and had not enjoyed good health for some time. He leaves a widow.
