The fighting was severe, almost' entirely hand-to-hand." We captured 'three Turkish machine guns.,' three trench mortars, and a large quantity of small-arms ammunition. A GERMAN ESTIMATE. AMSTERDAM, September 2. Tho 'Frankfurter Zoitiing' says: "One hundred thousand British troops participated in the attacks at Gallipoli last Saturday and Sunday, losing extremely heavily." The paper estimates that since August 6 the British losses exceed 59,000, including 600 officers. One cavalry division was wiped out.
