At a. meet-ins of flic Faculty of Arts and Science held on Tuesday evening _last. Dr Gilray (Dean) in tho chair, the iolluwing resolution was unanimously adopted on the motion of the Dean, seconded by Dr Benham: —“As Mr Frank Hyde Campbell, 31.A., has resigned his jwsition as lecturer on German, which ho has tilled with great efficiency since 1902, the Faculty ot Arts and Science desires to plan' on record its profound appreciation of the value ot Mr Campbell’s eervii.es in promoting the study of tho German language and literature In the University of Otago. Although German is little studied in educational institutions in New Zealand, which has. rendered Mr Campbell's work among ns exceptionally discouraging, ho has always conducted his small classes with conspicuous zeal, energy, and success. The Faculty greatly regrets to ho separated from so genial and able a colleague, and wishes Mr Campbell every success and prosperity in hi? future career.'’ On Saturday evening last Mr .fames Jordan, who is leaving the employ of Messrs M'Farlane and Dcden to proceed with the Sixth Reinforcements, was. at 1 tie* hands of the firm and his fellow--em-ployees the recipient of a silver wristlet watch, suitably inscribed. Mr M'Farlane, in makingythe presentation, emphasised Mr Jordan’s good qualities, and tho, happy relationship existing between him and his fellow-workers. The employees joined with Mr M’Farlane in wishing him Godspeed anti a safe return. Mr Jordan feelingly responded. In Messrs H. F. Moss Ltd.’s sale room last evening Mr E- S. Singh’to;., the firm’s storeman, who leaves for Trenthnm with the reinforcements on Saturday next, was presented with a safety razor and set of military brushes. Mr E. Archdeicon Pack? and family arrived in Dunedin last night. They ,-rr, north hr the Monowai to-morrow. Mr F. A. Cullen, who mm oc.-upted the position of Receiver of Land Revenue for Otago for a period of seven ears, has been transferred to si'rtvlar t inn in Auckland, which, by the wav. is his birthplace. Mr Cullen was stationed in Dunedin from 1890 to 1897, and during that time took a keen interest in outdoor athletic sports, especially rowing. He will also be remembered as a prominent member of the University Rugby Football Club. Mr Cullen, who is deservedly popular, leaves for Auckland at the end of the present month. The Commissioner of Crown Lands for Otago (Mr R. T. ?add) left for Oo.maru this afternoon, where he will meet the Surveyor-General (Mr E. If. Wilmoth Tomorrow will bo scent in visiting Maratveka- Estate, near Mnheno. whi- hj is now being surveyed with a view to subdivision for closer settlement. A Christchurch message announces the death of Dr C. J. Russell, agio] ,88. He took a great interest- in education matters. and was at- one time a member of the North Canterbury Ed'teat ion Roar/!.
