DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY
A special general meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery was held in the First, Church Hall yesterday, and was attended by a. good number of ministers and elders. The Moderator (Rev. H. H. Barton) presided. The Rev. R. Fail-maid introduced a deputation, consisting of Messrs T. K. Sidcy, M.P., and R. Hanning, from the Caversham deacons’ court, who requested the consent of the Presbytery to the sale of part of the manse property to the City Council for street-widening purposes. It was pointed out that the deacons court and also the congregation were agreeable to the sale.—The request was granted. The Foreigiy Missions Committee reported re, candidates for service, and the Presbytery decided, on the motion of Rev. A. Cameron, that the committee provide as soon as possible further information regarding the wants of the several mission fields and the additional expense that would he incurred.
A suitable memorial minute, respecting the late Mr Alexander Watson was adopted. Rey, I. K. MTntyre, on behalf of the Sabbath Observance Committee, recommended that the Presbytery would anew earnestly appeal to their people to avoid as far as possible interfering with the Sabbath as a day of rest bv interring their dead on that day.—Recommendation adopted. Rev. I. K, MTntyre. on behalf of the Sabbath Observance Committee. also recommended that the Presbytery, in order that practical effect be given to the, resolution passed at its meeting in March enjoining upon all congregations within its bounds to make, a special effort to form branches of the Lord s Day Alliance, urge upon all. ministers to take immediate steps to bring the matter before their congregations if they have not done so already, and request them to report the result to the convener of the Sabbath Observance Committee at an early date.—Adopted. Rev. R. Fairmaid, on behalf of i,ie 1 onth of the Church Committee, recommended the appointment of ih? Roc. A. Dor. jto the committee in lieu of Rev. D. K. Fisher, translated 10 Southland Presbytery.—Adopted.
