MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting, held a week late, on account of the holidays, was attended last evening by the Mayor (Mr Quelch) and Crs T. Aitken, A. F. Oheyne. F. Sea ton, M. Brown. J. Callander, T. Williams. C. H. Leith. and G. M'Leod. The Yaluatioii Department, Dunedin. notified that on account of the war revaluation of local districts had been completely suspended, and when a fresh start was mad.: tho council's request for a revaluation would be attended to.—Received. A circular asking the council's opinion as to the division of land under their control for the treatment, of noxious weeds was received from the Board of Agriculture. It was pointed out in the circular that it was almost impossible, too costly, and inadvisable to enforce tho Noxious Weeds Act in some cases, whereas in others it was very necessary that it should bo enforced.—Referred to Works Committee with power to act. if necessary. The' Works Committee reported that the usual surfacing work had been attended to during tho mouth, and that Cue water service was in good order. Sewerage : The broom at tho septic tank was cleared awav. Thev asked for authority to renew the Dodworth filter bed. with gravel and metal.—The report was adopted. The Finance, Committee reported the receipts for the month (£255 6s lOd), having paid wages £55 18s Id and accident insurance £8 10s Id, and submitted and recommended for payment accounts totalling £216 5s 6d. Adopted. Tho Ranger reported having impounded seven horses. lie pointed out the necessity of taking proceedings to put a stop to cattlo wandering in one or two instance?.--Clerk to attend to matter. The dog tax was renewed at the same price as previously, a.nd the ranger appointed collector. On Cr Callander's suggestion it was derided to eiili-t the. services of the local constable to proceed against persons riding birvcles at night without lights or riding fin the borough footpaths.
