[Pee United Press Association.] WANGANUI. January 6. Phillipi George Barnard, a prisoner oa remand on a. charge of pocket-picking, escaped from the p-ob.-o gaol this morning. He turned the, lock in his cell and the lorls of the door leading outside. The discovery that lie was mir-sing was made shortly after 7 o'clock. A search was immediately instituted, but so far it has been fruitless.

Georg® Mason, the clerk who sold the ticket, admitted the charpei of selling to a boy under age. but pleaded that- he did not sea him. 'The Magistrate (Mr Bishop) said lie would inflict a. heavy penalty, but deferred sentence till he could nee the boy.
