TO THE EDITORSir,—ln your issue of the 28th nit. there appeared a local stating 'that the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Finance, informed a 'Star' reporter "that arrangements had been made by the Government for paying off this month the balance of the loan (nearly three* and a-quarter millions) that Sir" Joseph Ward raised four years ago." Believing that the question of loans is quite interesting to a large number of your readers, I would with your permission just like to refer to the £5,000.000 loan raised" by the Hon. Jas. Allen a few years ago. His loan cost £4 5s 6d per cent, supposing we are able to pay it oft' in 30 years. Twenty years prior to its maturity will it be correct to state that it will cost us £274.500 in interest beyond the stipulated 4 per cent.., as well as £60,000 we never got?—l am, etc., M. MAlle.v.
