The Hon. .lames Alien, Minister of Defence, reached Dunedin la.st evening, and hopes to spend a few days here brforo returning to Wellington. The latest advice he had from Egypt was that. 14 of "our bovs "' were in hospital, but only one in serious condition, and this one, Albert Geo. Cooper, cf Hawke's Bay. has pinco died, of pneumonia. Any serious illne.-s is at- oneo communicated.
In answer to a. question whether there was likely to be somewhat moro definite organisation given to the National Reserve. Mr Allen said that their duties would be more clearly defined. The lav. would not allow of their being made pan of tho military organisation, but they were anxious to utilise tho .Reserve as they could. He was. however, not in a. position to say anything definite yet. Tho Minister thought that election petitions would r-Djne on in February.
