THE CHESS CONGRESS

CHRISTCHURCH. December 28
The New Zealand Chess Association's Congress was formally opened this morning bv the Mayor, who welcomed the visitors. ' Amongst thoso present was Mr Justice Dennistou (ex-president of the association). The following are tho competitors : Gricrson (Auckland), Hicks (Napier), Pleasants (Wanganui), Moore (Mnsterton). Barnes, Rolling, and W. M. C. Hill (Wellington), Dodds (Nelson). Severne and Buckett (Canterbury), Mara (Timarul, Rev. C. E. Fox (Tinwald). and Rev. B. G. Fox (Solomon Islands).
Tt was decided to play seven rounds this week and six rounds in the. following week.
