Tho competitions were open ito Territorials in the general training secj tion and demur Cadets within Group XIII., i which extends from Abbotsford on the south to Waituii on Ihe north, and wero inaugurated by the Defence authorities to encourage marksmanship amongst the various junior units within that area, and to affordthem an opportunity to compete for shooting prizes on something approaching even terms. The competitions began on Saturday with five rounds of grouping shots at 100 yds range, slow target, shooting with a limit of 20scc for taking aim, snapshooting, and rapid firing at various ranges up to 500 yds, and a championship match at the latter range. Only 47 leoiupetitotts mustered on the range, whereas the number last year was 6-1 all" told. All the competitions were carried out under strict service conditions. Ten competitors qualified to shoot for the championship, -which was won by Sergeant Johnston, with an aggregate of 205 points, Cadet, Ritchie being runner-up with 197 points. Captain R. X. Eraser (group commander) had charge of the arrangements, and was assisted by Lieutenant Dobson.
