Eight two-year-olds are engaged in the Dunedin Handicap. Holiday is sure to be well supported if she starts, and Samison and Blitz have the advantage of experience. Of tho 16 acceptors for,the Otago Handicap it is hard to pick a non-starter. John Barleycorn showed a good mile gallop this morning; Martins is liked because ho is well and has won at the distance; and there are indications that Ogier will carry the hopes of his owner. Chudic, Speedometer, and Findhorn are likely to bo fancied for the Federal Handicap. Every race on the card promises to be keenly contested. The Caledonian Society of Otago have arranged a specially attractive programme of games and sports for thedr sord animal gathering, which is advertised to take place nt tho society’s grounds, Kensington. The entries for the running and jumping - events constitute a record, and these will be confined to amateurs .only, and will be run under tho rules of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Amongst the entrants such wellknown athletes as Perkins (Otago champion), Connor, and Barton (University champion] appear, while the One-mile Amateur Handicap should afford some good sport, for amongst the contestants will be C. Frye (three-mile Otago champion), Beatson (three-mile champion), and G. Crimp (the brilliant runner and holder of the One-mile Championship of Otago). A special feature of tho gathering, which, by the way, will be the 55rd held under the auspices of the Caledonian Society, will be the Highland dancing and piping. The latter will bo judged by Mr G. Mnnro, late of the famous Black Watch 42nd Regiment, while Mr W. H. M'Kenzie will act as adjudicator for the dancing. Judging by the enthusiasm which is being displayed an excellent day’s sport is prophesied.'
