GISBORNE, December 18. At the Magistrate's Court Edward Hooper, a young half-caste, a law clerk, was charged with embezzlement amounting to over £I,OOO. The accused pleaded guiltv, and was committed to Auckland for sentence. TAUMARUNUI, December 18. WELLINGTON, December 18. At the Supreme 'Court to-day the Chief Justice sentenced Frank Laweon to 18 months' imprisonment, and Robert Parker, alias Robert Francis Niles, to two years, both for breaking and entering and theft.
