EXCITING HARBOR RACE. The above club brought off their annual hnibor race for motor boats on Saturday. Tile course was from the wharf by steamer's channel to mark off George street pier. Poit Chalmers and back, :v distance of a hour- 16 miles. The first prize was presenied bv Mr J. B. Shacklock. second bv Mr G. S. Miller, and third added by the club. Tiiis year the entries were, not so numerous as in previous years, there being seven, as follows:—Kotare (scratch). Eureka (scratch). Calliope (2min 30sec), Komur (smin), Xorana (6min), Marguerite (19min SOsec), Palmer (23min 30s«c). Kotare, which was running about previous to the start, broke down, and had to be towed to her moorings ; while Eureka and Palmer, although cruising about in tho vicinity, did not start. Unfortunately there was some doubt on the part of the competitors as to the exact position of the starting line, consequently all were late in starting. However, under tho circumstances', one or two boats made fair starts. The race, was run on the Mark Foy system, and the. starters wore timed to go as follows:—Marguerita 2h 54min, Norama 2h 47min cOeec, Komuri 2h 50min 30ss;, and Calliope. 2h 51min. Once over the line all engines were opened out and a good race was run, and the boats turned the Port Chalmers mark in the following order:—Marguerita, Xorana, and Komuri. On the return trip the back-markers pulled in the leaders, and Komuri, Nornna, and Calliope made a most exciting finish, Norana gaining first place frorn_ Komuri by T.soc, while. Calliope was 32sec astern of Komuri, Marguerita having retired some time previous. Finishing limes : Norona 4h 32>nin 42sec, Komuri 41i 42min 49see, Calliope 4h 33min 21sec.
