(Special to the Star.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 12. Mr H. S. Richards, the selected Rhodes Scholar, was five years at tho Rangiora High School, which he entered as a junior Education Board, scholar, lie got a senior board scholarship, and then a junior university scholarship. .In 1911, when he went to Canterbury College, at the ago of 16, he was head monitor at the High School and a lieutenant in the cadet vorp. He passed the regular examination, and held a commission as lieutenant. In November, .1.912, he passed tiio 11.A. degree, and also won a senior scholarship in pure mathematics. He sat for his M.A. last mouth, with honors in mathematics and electricity. In sport, Mr Richards was the crack shot of the cadet corps at tho High School. He is a good swimmer, and since joining tho university he has specialised in long-distance running. He has had a brief but brilliant scholastic career. Dr C. Coleridge Farr declares that ho is “just the type of man tor a Rhodes bcholar."
