A CHRISTMAS APPEAL

Mr W. T. Talboys, chairman of the Benevolent Committee of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, writes to us ns follows :

Tho columns of your paper over being open to appeals for charity, I have again much pleasure in submitting tho annua! appeal on behalf of the recipients of charitable aid. On previous occasions the response has been such as enabled the Benevolent Committee of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to give to each outdoor relief case a 'double allowance (extra being in cash) for the Christmas week: thereby bringing that joy into these unfortunate households, where there are so many children, which they could not otherwise have. For the inmates of tho board’s several institutions there is a special fund to provide for Christmas fare, but no euch fund is available for those receiving outdoor relief. Tho increased price of goods will bear especially hard this year on those for whom tin's appeal is being made. Tho estimated amount required is £SO, and I am sure this appeal will not bo made in vain, notwithstanding the many calls now being made on the public, which has always been found responsive to deserving causes. I have much pleasure in enclosing my cheque for £1 Is, and request that you will further the objects hereof, and take charge of all donations, which should be forwarded not later than Saturday, tho 19th December, 1914. —I am, etc., William T. Talboys. [Wo shall bo pleased to take charge of any money forwarded to ua.—Ed. E.S.]
