WESTERN TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD
The monthly meeting held to-day was attended by Messrs J. T. Gibson, James Miller, D.'Doull, W. Thomson, and C. Campbell.
Before proceeding with the ordinary business the Chairman made feeling iviolence to the death of Mr Robert Robinson, who had occupied a seat at various local bodies in the district. A minute of appreciation was recorded, and a resolution of sympathy with relatives passed, a cop\ of which was to be sent to Mrs Robinson. The Engineer reported: The following work has been carried out during the month:—The cleaning out of “C” dram lias been finished. Wain's drain Horn Thomson and Co.’s drain to Poplar road drain has been, cleaned out; also the mam Momona drain and the cross-cut from mona drain. T,he lower end of Kirk’s road drain was dragged and cleaned up, and some maintenance and fencing work done on the lower contour channel. The Lake drain from the pump towards the Henley road is being enlarged to allow of the water from that district reaching the pump better; the material is being used to repair and strengthen the Lake embankment opposite. The retimbering of the old pump drain at “ B ’ road is being carried out. The banking in of the outlet of Sparks Creek into the contour has been completed. Contracts 55-42: Satisfactory progress continues to be made with the work of those contracts. About 1 mile 30 chains of new channel has been opened up. Separate reports dealing witn the following matters will be submitted for your consideration: —The drainage of Henley and .Berkley and the proposal_ to put an outlet box on Poplar road drain ; the Henley-Rerwick road embankment : Lake Tatauai embankment boxes; am! water supply on the lower plain in dry weather. The river embankment and outlet boxes have been inspected and left in good order. The foreman has been instructed to include the contour channel embankments up as far as the Otokia road meantime in this monthly inspection of embankments. The pumping for the five weeks ending 20th November was four pump hours only.—Report adopted. Claims of compensation for damages sustained through board’s action in taking out boxes in Lake embankment were received as follow®;--Helen Scott £lll, Robert Shennati £l2O. A claim was also read from the latter in respect of the board’s action in excavating alongside claimant’s property for £l5O. Liability disclaimed. From W. O. Reid. Henley, asking for provision for watering his stock.—Writer to be asked to pay cost. A deputation from the Taieri County Council waited on the board re the metalling of the Henley-Rerwick road.—lt was resolved that the five or six chains which had been scoured be raised by the board at the county’s expense, and the metalling then be carried out by the county.
