HOSPITAL SATURDAY

WHY IT CALLS FOB CONFIDENCE AND SUPPORT. To-morrow Is the tenth annual street collection of the Hospital Saturday Association of Otago. This day. affords a unique opportunity for those of the gene-' ral public who are not ablo to donate largo amounts to or become annual scribers to our hospital charities. Every contribution, however small, will be wel> corned, and it is remarkable) how " every> little helps" and "the mickle makes the muckle.'' This year's collection will be divided amongst the Belgian relief fund, the Dunedin Hospital's scheme for the treatment of consumptives, the St. John Ambulance Association, trained nurse visiting the sick poor in their" homes, Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society (whose agent, Rev. P. C. Cumming, uses their allocation to relieve some of the wants of the needy dependents of consumptives in the Sanatorium and Hospital), the Victoria Women's Jubilee Convalescent Fund (which provides a holiday for tired an<| wearied women other than hospital patients needing rest in the country, but unable to pay for such themselves). Two other charities on the association's list are the Karitano Babies' Hospital and the Dental Hospital fund. This latter, an assistance for needy cases, is administered .by » i sub-committee, of which Mr Cumminp is convener. A body such as the Hospital Saturday Association, organised and administered by such competent mon and women as form its committee, and whoso lady workers so willingly and freely do their part with tho< collection boxes, is such as to appeal to the publio for thoir continued appreciation and generous support, fho extra efforts made this year merit a record collection. When each does his or her .share, the success is already assured. The committee have been presented with a Christmas cake and a specially decorated tlower basket. This will be auctioned at Jocobs's corner.
