The Commonwealth Minister of Defeneo is not altogether satisfied that the fires which have recently occurred an British ships wore entirely accidental. In a referenco to the" outbreaks on the steamers Norfolk and Ortoric, Senator Pearce said that he attached some significance to tho rather undue frequency of the fires at this particular -period. ""I cannot say much," he added, "-except that steps are being taken to make sure thaf the fires that are occurring on vessels round the Australian coast are nothing more-than coincidences." 1
-When a Russian air scout near Krasnik was shot at the bullet penetrated the oiltank of his-mnchine, but, pressing his foot against the hole, he stopped the flow of the liquid and regained safety.
