The directors of the Waihi Beefs Gigantic Company have been in Waihi during the past few days, and have spent some time inspecting the mine. Tho shaft is now down 1,014 ft, and the directors and manager state that the last 400 ft sunk have been in tho lode-bearing andcsite, and that the country rock is similar in appearance to that in tho low level of the Grand Junction mine. It has accordingly been decided to project a ■crosscut in a south-easterly and north-westerly direction with a view to intersecting the main Waihi reef system. The work (says tho 'Herald') will be followed with interest, as it will go far towards determining the questions as to whether the reefs live and cany values in the eastern portion of the Waihi field.
