The homestead of Messrs James Deegan and Sons, at Oreti, was destroyed by fire last Sunday. The loss above insurance (says the ‘Winton Record’) is about£s7o. Dr Edgar’s house at Lnmsden was practically destroyed by fire on Wednesday morning. A bucket brigade worked heroically, and saved a portion of the house. The "building, which was valued at £6OO, was insured for. £4OO, while the furniture, the estimated value of which was £360, was insured for £250, both covers being held by the New Zealand Office,
