The Public Works Estimates for the year, which total £3,402,758, contain thefollowing proposed votes The sums spent last year are given in parentheses : Public works, departmental, £67,401 (£66,627); railway construction and additions, £1,460,000 (£1,104,896); public buildings, £538,000 (£369,600); harbor works, etc., £20,758 (£3,069); tourist and health resorts, £20,000 (£14,989); immigration £36,000 (£33,914) j roads and bridges, £75,000 (£377,979); goldfields development, £4,600 (£4.890) ; telegraph extention, £410,000 (£392,643) ; contingent defence, £50,000 (£30,186); lands improvement, £19.900 (£16,996); totals, £3,402,758 (£2,421.784).
