The Paloona leaves Melbourne m-mor-riiw for Dunedin via. Hobart and Bluff. The Westralia. sails on Friday for Auckland via East Coast ports. Messrs Tnrubull, Martin, and Co.. agents for the, American and Australian Line, have been advised by the last mail troni London to inform shippers and roiiMguee:* that they may depend upon a fairly regular service from New York during the present disturbed conditions. At the same time it is hoped that there will lie a- marked increase in the support given to the English lines from New York vis against those running hitherto jointly or wholly with German tonnage. Cable advices state that Lloyd's Hongkong representative- reports that the Geryuau steamer Taurierifels and. the Amerivjiu steamer Rio Pa-sig have been captured. The Tannenfels is a .steamer of 5.341 tons, belonging to the Hansa Line, ami ha.-* been engaged in the New YorkAustralian trade. She. visited Dunedin in June last, and left Newcastle for Singapore on July 15, arriving at the latter ■port on August 1. Advice lias been received that Richardson and Co.'* new coastal steamer Make, which was built, on Hie Clyde for the Auckland-East Coast bays, and C.isbnrne and Napior service, has been detained at Home owing to the outbreak of war. The Mako was provisioned and bunkered, and had her crew on board ready to sin'! a day after war was declared. Owing to the heavy war risk the departure of the vessel has been postponed indefinitely. She is of 600 tons gross register. It was originally intended that she should .-alt at Edithbnrg (South Australia) to lead gypsum .and salt for Napier. Captain l!la. k. and Air H. Hambletnn (assessorsl. Captain M'Phersoii. actini; harbor master, said it was evident frum the position of the wreck that the vessel was out of control, otherwise she would have been two miles further out. It was quite possible, with tlv wind and strong tide on the of the wreck, for the vessel to drift into tier present position. The wreck was in 12 fathoms. Witness did not think the captain would attempt to anchor at that depth. James Anderson, harbor board signalman, said be saw no siynals of distress. Captain Baldwin, of the Kittawa, nave evidence as to the nature of the weather on the of the wreck. The other evidence was purely foiuial. The Court will take evidence at Ifokitika to-morrow.
