Mr T. A. Munro, of Kcrmr, has been appointed a member of the'Otago Land Board in succession to Mr J. A. Maepherfion. Mr Alfred Dillon. r-x-M.P. for Hawkc's Bay, is dan porously ill. it is stated that Mr J. V. Leeina, of Queensland, lias received an appointment as organiser for the "trade,'' in view of the Local Option poll at the end of next year. His salary is to l;c £7OO per annum and travelling expenses. Mr P. IT. Snnlh, at present member for Waitaki, will probably be a, candidate for Timaru at the next General Flection in the interests of the. Government party. Mr K. X. Armit, -who is leaving the parliamentary staff of the Wellington 'Times' in order to join the literary staff of the 'Sydney Daily Telegraph,' was presented by his colleagues in the Press Gallery with a walking-stick, as a testimony of appreciation and goodwill. Mr Armit sails by the Willochra. on Friday, and makes the third Wellington journalist who has joined this Sydney paper dining the. current year. The death is announced of an old identity named John M'Gill. He arrived in the colony in 1878, and for several years was a shepherd at Knapdalc. He took up a farm at Waikaka in 1884, and retired two years ago, owing to failing health, lie died yesterday from heart failurs. His widow, fours sons, and one daughter survive him. Mrs Ann Anderson, an old pioneer, 86 years of age, died last night. She. arrived in Victoria in 1852, and in New Zealand in 1862, settling at Lawrence. She. was married twice. She leaves two daughters and one son bv her first marriage.—Gore telegram.
