SIMLA, September 18. In adjourning the Legislative. Council, the \ ioeroy (Lord Hardmgc) made an exhaustive review of Indian policy. Ho emphasised the importance of the existence of Turkey as an independent Power, but added a word .of friendly warning to the .Moslem corn inanity in India that they must not give an unreasonable, interpretation to the idea, of Islamic solidarity. Alluding to the position of Indians i’n selfgoverning colonies, he said that while the colonial Governments were extremely sensitive the Indian Government fully recognised their responsibilities and spared no efforts to protect the interests of their Indian subjects, while the}' would continue to urge their views until redress was obtained. Lord Ilardingc laid special stress on tho right of entry into Canada of the wives and children of Indians who had acquired a Canadian domicile, and hoped that the defects in the .South African Immigration Bill would bo remedied. He, regretted tho appalling increase of lawlessness in the Northern and Western Punjab, and of the Dacoities in Eastern Bengal. His Excellency concluded by justifying the heavy expenditure on higher education in India. COMMAND OF THE INDIAN ARMY. LONDON. September 18. (Received September 19, at 8.50 a.m.) The ‘Daily Express’ states that General lan Hamilton will probably be. Commandei’-in-Ghief in India when his tour of inspection of the overseas forces is completed.
