THE OLYMPIC GAMES. r At a meeting of the Olympic Council for New Zealand last night a resolution that endeavors bo made to secure recognition of New Zealand as a separate nation in connection with future Olympic games was- defeated on the casting vote of the chairman (Mr Marryatt). AUSTRALIAN BOWLERS FOR NEW ZEALAND. Mr Clarence Moody, of Adelaide, notifies the 'Sydney Daily Telegraph' that from the replies he has received to liis communications from the other States, he thinks that there is every prospect of a first-class team of bowlers being secured for New Zealand. The intention is (subject to the wishes of the players) to leave Svdney shortly before Christmas, and play five test matches with New Zealand, and" other games. The whole tour will probablv extend over five or six weeks, but it will be possible for players to take part in the test games and return home within a month. Anna Carlovna, by Soult—Czarevna, was heavily backed fcr the Heatherlie Handicap at Caulfield on September 6 She was m front till near the finish, but Mountain Princess beat her bv a neck. It appeared as if her rider. E." Turner had been caught napping, and he was asked a few questions by the stipendiary stewards His explanation was that Anna. Carlovna could not go on any faster. Midnight Sun was a starter in this race, but he finished last. Ho distinguished himself in another direction, by kicking the rider of another horse at the starting post, with the result that the horse, Uxbridge, had to be withdrawn. The Cricket Association (says a Johannesburg cable) have decided not to invite' Faulkner to return to South Africa for the test matches. The general feeling upholds Australia's attitude in such cases.
