TAKAPUNA SHOOTING AFFAIR
; Robin Jasper Crago, 19 years of age, appeared in the Auckland Court yesterday on a charge that at Takapuna, on March 13, he wilfully attempted to murder Percy R. Skeates and Bertie J. Hanna. The latter, it will be remembered, was a chauffeur, and Skeates was the proprietor of a garage at Auckland. It is ; alleged that Crago stated that he wished to purchase a motor car, and induced Skeates and Hanna to take him in. one, by way of trial, to Takapuna. In a quiet part of the road Crago asked the chauffeur (Hanna) to stop the car, as he wished to get his mail from some scrub. Ee went away, and Skeates and Hanna were talking together when they wore startled by revolver shots. Both Skeates and Hanna received several bullet wounds. The former was dangerously hurt, but Hanna’s injuries were not serious. Both men allege they saw Crago fire the shots. The accused pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence. He was committed to the Supremo Court for trial.
