[Pee United Press Association] WELLINGTON, January 4. An interesting return has been compiled showing how the Territorial Defence System has worked, and how the provisions of the Art have been observed up to November 30 last. In the whole, of New Zealand there have been only 362 refusals to take the oath, and there have been out of the large army of men enrolled only 1,161 absences from drill in both Senior Cadets and Territorials recorded since the Act came into force. For dereliction of duty 904 Territorials and 154 Senior Cadets have been convicted, and only 68 people have been imprisoned. On May 31 last 61.797 Senior Cadets and Territorials had registered.
