Handieappcr Henrys beat tho punters yesterday, only one favorite (Obsono) scoring, and" fairly large dividends were tho order of the day. The sum of £6.645 was put through tho totalisator, an increase of £2,544 on tho corresponding day hist year. Tho following concludes our report : Tokorahi Welter, of 80 sows. 7f.—Firebell (8.2) 1. WANGAXUI RACES. The. totalizator turn-over yesterday (£16,024) was an increase of £5,118 on tho opening day of last year, the following events were decided in addition to given in our yesterday's issue : Century Hurdles, of oOC sovs. 2|m.— Appen (9.0) 1, Waipulerc (9.0) 2, Atirains (10.1) 5. Also .started: Gold Bird (10.5). Maidi (10.0), Marlon (9.10), Hydrant (9.7), John (9.7), Waterworks (9.6), Lethean (9.0), and Torhelle (9.0). Won by a neck after a desperate iinich, Auratuis close up. Time, 4min 16sec.
Connolly Handicap, of 250 ?ow>. l|m. — Menivonia (8.8) 1, Gunboat (8.9) 2, Bliss (7.10; 6. AU> started: Iranui (b'.ll), Ladv Menschikoff (8.3), Sir Tristram (7.12). To Puia (8.0). The sum of £12,481 was in vested at Takapuna yesterday, making a total for the two days of £25,039, an increase of £10,928 over the 1910 winter meeting. Three events were, decided after our report closed. Miss Explosion won tho slaidcn Hurdles, ljin ; Jack Delaval scored in the Victoria Handicap, b' 2 i ; and tho meeting was brought to a close by Woe Olga accounting lor the Welter Handicap, Im. A neck was tho official verdict in the last two events.
A JOCKEY DISQUALIFIED. After the running of the Kaitoke Hack Hurdlte at Wanganui yesterday the stewards held a meeting to consider tho riding of Napper. After hearing evidence they disqualified A. Julian ior twelve months for pulling the horse. BOXING. A fight for the welter weight professional championship of the Dominion between Denis -Murphy and Doss Burns took place last night at the Wanganui Amateur Association's tournament. .Murphy wars cautioned several times in the first round far holding. He continued these tactics in tho second round, and the referee (Dr Napier M'Lean) disqualified him and awarded the fight to Burns. Morris beat Hogan on jioints in a fourround welter contest.
